UK:RESISTANCE 'main page'
We were slightly worried when we saw the headline "Church Calls for Resistance Ban" but it's nothing to do with us, oh no. It's Sony again. Now the Lord Jesus is pissed off that they have used one of his places of worship - Manchester Cathedral, in their disappointing and under-achieving launch title Resistance: Fall of Man. "I think they are going to be in for a surprise because we are not going to let this one go," said Canon Paul Denby, Manchester Cathedral Subdean and Administrator. We don't know what plan of action the world's 2.1 billion Christians have in mind but it should be an easy fight against only 300 million PlayStation owners. We asked Jesus for a comment but he was too busy playing Gears of War.

Nice try at deflecting attention away from your constant boy raping, Catholic church.

The catholic church is the lesser of two evils here Dan. Once we have taken out Sony, thats when we begin our crusade on the crucifix!!

It's Church of England, not Catholic. :)

Wow, this is just like that spagetti western with Clint Eastwood where he plays the two sides off against each other, orders some coffins then rides of with all the loot.

If that is'nt wank material i don't know what is!!!

I'm Christian myself, and I play Resistance. While I understand the point, I think it's a little too far.

This ain't bad PR, this is an amazing PR for SONY.I wouldn't be surprised if they had mastered this stunt, it'll certainly gonna help them shift a few PS3s off the shelves.
This was even a headline news on ITN yesterday...great PR.
Anyway PS3 is still SHIT !!
If only the dreamcast had this kind of publicity with "House of the Dead 2 " lol

Don't forget Sony do intentionally market for the brain dead (and wanna be gangstas), as it is this audience that holds the majority of their sales income afterall.

If they did this in a mosque there'd be hell on, and far more fuss created that British clergy are making.

I can understand the church having a cool atmosphere to put in a game, but this is kinda like using the school in columbine as a setting, it's insensitive to the Manchester shootings.
    Blogger Sam said...
er, no it's not really that insensitive. If the game sent down Hulme park with a shitty pistol shooting 16 year old black drug runners in the head, that would be a bit insensitive.

I bet Sony nick that idea now for resistance 2 :(

I really don't get all the fuss, it's a fiction set in a familiar place.

I don't see any difference between using a church or shop mall, or a famouse street.

Funny considering a priest was caught molesting alter boys by luring them into his quarters with a chance to play an imported PS3 before the UK launch. The church squashed that news story awfully quick!

    Two things:

    1. I've not played Resistance, but my understanding is that you're humans fighting ALIENS. I'm sure the CoE would be happy for human soldiers to shoot aliens in their church.

    2. The Getaway games. I've had no lawsuits (nor have Team Soho) for the repeated, REALISTIC, OBVIOUSLY TAKING PLACE IN THE PRESENT DAY gun crimes against INNOCENT people that I have commited in said games, while stood in front of St Paul's Cathedral or Westminster Abbey or any number of other sites where such violence would be 'inappropriate'.

    Shoot those scientologists!

    The church should be glad.
