you're stupid and ignorant?
1. Sony will lose $240 on each console sold, if you don't buy any games or Blu-ray films.
2. It's selling so badly it could be considered a limited edition collector's item in the near future.
3. They're more fun to throw things at than coconuts.
4. Buying one would help your defence when trying to plead insanity.
5. I'd rather give my greedy bitch ex-wife half a PS3 than cash.

"PS3: EVERYONE WILL BUY IT WHEN THE NEXT FINAL FANTASY COMES OUT ANYWAYS."
I know the launch estimate was about 220k in the UK.
Three week sales estimates were 165k, 28k, 17k = 210k
Every report I've seen on the UK is stores still have plenty, a lot more then the 10k they should have left.
Either the UK got a lot more then 220k at launch, they've already had a second shipment, or the sales figures are wildly exagerated.
I can't wait for the next Killzone!
I want to stand in Virgin on Oxford Street shouting loudly "See it looks fuck all like the CGI demo from E3 doesn't it?" and doing my I-told-you-so-cha-cha.
There are a bunch of print shops round the corner in Goodge Street area, would be fun to see 9'x4' posters / people t-shirts with choice 'E3 Demo' and 'Actual Game' screenshots on them side by side.
Might be one way to get a free 360 '1337' out of Microsoft...

What a bunch of twats they were.
The 360 and Wii will definately pick up a lot of that slack, but not all of it I fear (so ingrained is the link between the'Playstation' brand with 'gaming' in popular culture).
At least the X-Box brand has remained solid throughout, and the global popularity of the DS and novelty of the Wii input system have done much to awaken a lot of people who sleepwalked into getting a PS2 that there are other options.
Sony have at least helped the cause by also fucking up the Playstation brand with the PSP though.
I bought a PSP, I really liked it apart from the fact the UMD media was a stupid choice for a portable media format (crappy loading times, often didn't awaken from 'sleep' mode).
They should have sold games online and allowed you to transfer them to the PSP from your PC/Mac from the start (and not through a PS3). Muppets.
I gave mine away and am back to the GBA SP, a common story in the office.
Think about it...
PS1 = Master System, entering the market, grabbing sales from nintendo.
PS2 = Megadrive, great success, lots of games, third party support.
PS3 = Saturn, too expensive, hard to program for.
so therefore...
PS4 = Dreamcast, smaller, cheaper, more powerful, better online features and ultimately doomed by its predecessor scaring off developers and retailers.
And so the whole ghastly cycle continues...
See if you can guess what this is about..
'It's very satisfying for us to see that our close planning with retail and channel partners has ensured that all consumers wanting to get their hands on a PS3, whether they pre-ordered or not, were able to. With the PS3 now realised, the strong consumer support to date indicates that we've had a successful platform launch and are at a great starting position for us to grow and develop the PS3 platform.'
You guessed it, it's the natural reaction of the SCENZ general manager to selling 4,835 in the opening week in New Zealand.
I'll repeat that. 4,835 consoles sold IN THE OPENING FUCKING WEEK. According to Kotaku, that's respectable in a country of 4 million. Given Sony's claims they would rule the world, I was say that was actually BOLLOCKS.

We need a second big videogame crash. Pure and simple. If Sony's failure can go one step to bringing that... Good.
Yes, it might take out some companies that don't deserve to die. But something has to happen to get the videogames industry out of the stagnancy its been in for over the last 5 years.
you do realise that such a crash would probably leave only companies like EA standing? Sure bring on the crash kill off all those pesky small time developers. who needs the likes of treasure anyways?
asmrjbje - you
As for the SEGA console comparisons, doesn't that mean the Xbox 5000 is going to be hard to program for and overpriced?
Come the end of the world/industry crash, EA will launch a console and rule the entire industry, buhahahaha!
elstoof,
why do you find it neciasarry to analyze 1 point of a comment that was clearly just a dig at $ony.
Perhaps there has been some reseach to proove that it is actually more fun to throw wooden balls at coconuts after all.
It could be pointed out that no judge in the land is going to saw a PS3 in 2 and award my ex-wife half!
What's your fucking point?
Come on Nintendo... I still haven't managed to find a Wii
You have done your part. Let's just let fate take control of the rest.
Why do you think i took her to see all those cheap, second rate Magicians?.
EA and Sony are the companies that will bring on a crash the way things are going. If they did indeed survive, even they would finally have to change the way they operate and what they churn out. God forbid EA releasing original software, eh. They used to once, you know.
Lets look at what happened to their 80's counterparts. Atari's hardware division spent years trying to reclaim lost glories, floundered, bought by Infogrammes, and is now used as a software label, their arcade division has been passed around by everyone and their mum (who owns it now? Midway?), and Mattel (after several years of totally mismarketing the NES in europe for Nintendo), got the fuck out of the business completley and went back to what they are good at: Making Barbie dolls.
Treasure (Incidentally, what have they released recently, anyway? The last good thing I got from them was the GBA Guardian Heroes - an update of a 10 year old game) and other teams like it may have to struggle to survive. Yes, thats true. But they are also the same companies who will have a chance to inject something new into the industry in the same way Sega and Nintendo took over from the big guns in the 80's.
(Cunningly, other small companies of the day then, like Activision and EA, have become the cunts of today... That's irony for you.)
Even then, if they did go down, the people working for a company don't myseriously die when a company goes bankrupt you know. They might go on to bigger and better things, invigorating the industry anyway. What's in a name, after all.
My point still stands, the companies that have stagnated the industry have to fall, and someone else has to rise.
Shit or get off the pot.
Methinks ill go down to argos and see how many PS3s there are there on saturday. Last time i checked they had 3, and that was from 60 on launch day. And im sure you would like to know they had 34 premium 360s.
Back to blue skies reporting? Don't think so. More photos of shops with unsold PS3s please!
EA and Sony won't suddenly get creative if the market flounders, it will be more likely that they drop anything even slightly commercially risky. I agree that there is a level of stagnation in the amount of mass market shovelware being produced - but I can't see the PS3 failing as a platform changing that. All it will mean is that companies that have already invested large amounts of their budget developing for PS3 get shafted and the investment money goes somewhere else. ie shovelware on the systems that the average punter can afford to buy or out of the games industry full stop.
Wow. Talk about stating the obvious. Who would have thought that a £150 console would outsell a £425 console?
Do you think that's somehow clever? The Wii is priced so low largely because Nintendo were hoping that a cheaper console would outsell a more expensive one. That's the whole point of showing how poorly Sony's plan has worked. That doesn't change the facts; that is the fucking facts! It's like if you said
"Wow, big deal, who'd have thought a console made out of nitro glycerine would be outsold by one made of plastic, silicon, and metal", after months of people saying maiking a console from an explosive, dangerous, liquid was a bad idea. That's why we're bothering to talk about it. Sony made a stupid mistake charging so much money and now they are selling poorly because of it.
That would be, stay with me here, the point.
http://ps3.qj.net/Some-PlayStation-3s-reported-with-mystery-whine-noise/pg/49/aid/89103
I thought that noise was just the fanboys.
so they're not gonna make the profit through software sales..yet
SEGA = WERE GOOD
SONY = CUNTS
BUT are you people really so deluded that you don't see the MS are just as bad. If the PS3 crubles and falls then we wont see any further price cuts on the X360 and the X1080 will cost £500 and only be 20% more powerful!!!
The Wii isn't a part of this it's a totally different market. Not to mention that Nintendo are being complete wankers anyway. Metroid prime 3 and Mario Galaxy were no dout finished months ago. But because the Wii is so successful Ninten are holding them back until sales start dropping off. Not to mention that for what it is the Wii is an over priced hunk of junk anyway!
I was talking to this dude in Gamestation, he is also gay and has a Xbox360, he said they hadn't sold a single PS3 since launch day...
Were getting married in the summer...
Reliance on people's patience for 3rd party releases to sell your product is a huge risk, and a heavy burden on Square an Konami no doubt.
Nintendo have several, Mario, Metroid, Kirby and Zelda.
Sega have Sonic, Samba da amigo, Nights(albeit old).
Xbox has Halo, I still dont know what his face looks like, but hey you at least know when you see Halo, you think Xbox.
People need something they know at launch and not be forced to take a risk on titles or series they've never heard of.
People who bought a 360 for RR6 are'nt exactly gonna regret it because RR7 is on PS3, and has a few more cars or whatever.
They already did... kinda. It was called the 3DO. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trip_Hawkins
http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=24120
So imagine my mirth when at launch weekend I saw at least 100 PS3s in two shops and a supermarket, in addition to the ten in the small Virgin Megastore.
Meanwhile, the Wii is selling out as soon as they get stock in, even in shops where they're sold for the same price as the PS3.
There have been many examples of what by your standard could be deemed a 'damn fine console'; Atari Jaguar (may it rest in peace), Atari Lynx, uh... Atari 5200.... all consoles that outperformed the rest of the market at the time but failed to inspire the correct cocktail of happiness and joy that the SNES/Megadrive/PS1/PS2 managed. Damn fine consoles sure, but nobody has one, and it has fuck all to do with supply restrictions.
MS, though I dont like them very much to tell the truth, have actually made a good, successful console. XBOX Live is actually an ok-ish community tool, despite the sub-Steam commercial drapery. The Wii, despite being a souped-up GameCube that looks like an iPod is actually cracking fun to play and after buying one you dont feel like youve been raped by a gorilla, which is always a plus in my book.
Sony have made a monumental cock-up, and it is understandably satisfying to see their avian flu-ridden hens come home to roost. It's like seeing that annoying twat down the pub finally pick a fight with someone who kicks his fucking teeth in; Sony have earned their justified and inevitable come-uppance after years of capricious mediapathic arrogance and blatant lying.
Lying makes baby Jesus cry.
