UK:RESISTANCE 'main page'
We have to pull a Kotaku on this one - Death Tank is coming to Xbox Live. It is the most classic and most lost of all the lost classics. The Holy Grail has been wanked into by more people than have seen or played Death Tank.

To access sequel Death Tank Zwei you had to own two Lobotomy Software-developed Saturn games, which would read each others save positions and unlock the game. Which was hidden on the Duke Nukem 3D disc. Or something along those lines. It was 11 years ago now and is quite hazy.

Death Tank Zwei - COMING BACK

As one of what can only be several hundred people in the world to have played the ultra-lost lost classic created by mid-90s genius developer Lobotomy, we can indeed confirm Death Tank as one of history's greats. It rocked, that much we do remember.

Also vaguely remember being shit at it

Multiplayer perfection. If you're not old enough to remember it, consider yourself lucky you get to experience it for the first time. Playing Death Tank for the first time is as thrilling as watching Total Recall or The Terminator for the first time, you lucky youths.

One could also allegedly smash all of the toilets in Duke Nukem to get Death Tank. I think the easiest way was a cheat code though.

Indeed you're correct. Shamefully I didn't have a copy of Quake on my Saturn so I had to use the toilet smashing method. Was well worth it though!

Unfortunately I didn't have any 'friends' at the time, so the genius of the game was lost on me.

I believe you could also unlock it by finding all of the developer heads in Exhumed (Powerslave). Although I think this was only in the US version.

I've never bought anything on XBL, but I will definitely be getting this.

Wow! I was thinking about making a GBA version a few years ago, but I never got round to it. Great news.

You can tell a multiplayer game is great when even Saturn Bomberman gets neglected in favour of it.

I've a actually never lost a game, although that's partly down to manipulating my younger brother into ganging up on my older brother with me, even when I'm ahead.

It won't be as good online as it is with everyone in the same room, though.

    multiverse:

That was the original Death Tank. The version that was on Duke Nukem 3D was the improved Death Tank Zwei.

Sorry, I'm posting quite a bit. But I'm excited!

For the sake of Death Tank and Bomberman I actually took a Saturn with me when I moved into student halls, while everyone else took their fancy Wiis and PS2s and 360s.

It's a shame the number of players for offline multiplayer on the 360 is limited to 4, although 4 player Death Tank is still fantastic.

I'm sure I rmember playing a PC version of this, or something like it, that was hidden in something. Was it Duke Nukem 3D? I forget.

Is it not almost exactly the same game as the original worms (although from before Worms)?

I always wondered why one or the other didn't get more of a slagging/lawsuit.

It is NOT almost exactly the same as Worms. They are only very superficially similar.

    (Also, Worms predates Death Tank.)

Unnggghhhrrrr...reminded me of Exhumed. That game was rock hard. Still have nightmares about the Piranhas.

Please god let them not bother to try and improve the graphics. They were all part of the charm. And the title tune has to remain.

I'll forgive them if they ignore all that, as long as they get the gameplay spot on and do 7 player online.

You forgot to mention Commando. It was the best film of the 80's. And all curiously with Schwarzenegger.

I rented out Duke Nukem on Saturn only to play 5 minutes of Nukem and several hours of Death Tank when I found out I'd rented Quake before this :) Good times.
