F.A.O. KOTAKU
Here’s an image you can use for one of today’s updates, if you still have us in your RSS reader.
For those of you who haven’t been following, Kotaku’s publisher Gawker did something like moving from Blogger to WordPress or something like that and no one liked it very much. It was a bit like when we made the background blue, only this was noticed by more than 50 people.

I miss the old black and red ‘Speil Macht Frei’ days.
But this is cheerful and I’m used to it now.
Never change again.
February 18th, 2011 on 2:26 pm
I only use Kotaku still because this URL keeps the old design: http://uk.kotaku.com/
If that ever changes, they can go fuck themselves.

Graph needs more blue in it.

I preferred Spiel Macht Frei too – but them it could just be nostalgia or something. Empty sobbing for the past which always seems better than the now. I dont really know. I will however concede the outrun ‘this is how it always ends’ is bang on the money.

Are we at war with Kotaku now? That would be nice as the amount of spam being being sent to my email account has tripled since they were hacked.
February 18th, 2011 on 4:37 pm
They’re weak so I’m invading, like when playing RISK.
February 18th, 2011 on 6:20 pm
Papua New Guinea FTW!
Damn, it’s been a long time since I played RISK…
February 18th, 2011 on 7:33 pm
I’ve not played RISK, was it on the Master System? I didn’t have one of them, but I did have a GameGear.
February 18th, 2011 on 7:34 pm
An Outrun Macht Frei crossover perhaps?
February 18th, 2011 on 9:17 pm
Kotaku only have have 1 piece on Iceland, no bonus cards and they just rolled a 1 on the defence di.
UK:R have 8 counters in Greenland and they just rolled 3 sixes on the attack dice.
Alea iacta est!

I’m glad you posted this, as I couldn’t be arsed to do it on my website, and the only person that reads the dross I come up with is Phorenzik, anyway.

I love risk. I have the 90’s edition, used only once with bored family members circa 1996. Never played it since.
I’ve played some computer versions of it but the merciless and superior computer logic beats me every time. And you can’t goad, bargain with or psychologically terrorise a computer foe, either.
:(
Moral of the Kotaku story: Fuck with a website IN ANY WAY and risk the spergy wrath of change hating geeks everywhere. The only reason why the changes to UK:R didn’t see me off is because I have nowhere else to go.

I’m having trouble believing more than 50 people visit this site and even more so that any of them (if they exist) would notice any change in the world whatsoever.
As for the demise of Kotaku. Best news since the crappy ending of Lost disappointed many fans.
Slightly off topic – How long has to pass before we can add Hitler’s Cream video and the one about SEGA Superstars Tennis ending credits to ‘Old Favourites’?

I hope they dont change Fleshbot too. Where else am I going to find porn on the internet.

This reminds me of the changes done to heute and the heute-Journal (the news on one of the public TV programmes) a year or so ago. The old studio and intro were functional, charming, and perfectly fine. Then they suddenly wasted tons of (tax) money on remaking it entirely to be “more modern” which apparently means making it completely sterile, inserting a bunch of rather surreal camera pans, and ridding it with all sorts of frequent bugs.

I sometimes get nostalgic for the old black and red, but don’t ever change back. Or change. Ever. I don’t like change.

I hate the new Kotaku layout, I’m one of the representations in the graph.
Haven’t been back since either.

I liked this version of UKR when it switched as it came with an RSS feed. Meant I didn’t have to use the shonky one I’d cooked up so I could check for updates more discretely.
I also have to admit to being one of the people in the graph. I even like the new layout, although I realise I’m probably the only one.

I do quite like the look of the static front page. Nice fonts, shame about the… rest.
February 22nd, 2011 on 4:11 am
They added a scrollbar today to the side column, due to people pointing out not everyone has a tablet or a mouse with a wheel.
Now it looks a bit late-90’s retro, as if the web designer just learnt to use frames. Bless.
Coming soon – a scrolling message using the MARQUEE tag, maybe with a bit of BLINK thrown in, a starfield background, and an obnoxious midi file playing on the front page.
I hope they use the theme to Airwolf. It has a helicopter noise.

Sorry, couldn’t help it. Been a lack of botposts lately, just trying to fill the void…
February 23rd, 2011 on 12:10 pm
Might as well take advantage of the situation then:

Are we back to once-a-week updates then?
